Silver Fir Campground is situated along the North Fork Nooksack River just a few miles from Heather Meadows near the eastern end of the Mt Baker Scenic Highway. From the central entrance two arms spread out along the river with 21 tent/trailer sites. Of these 13 can be reserved with the remainder available on a first-come-first-served basis. The sites have a lot of variety; one has a little bridge connecting the parking space to the campsite, some have great views, some have trails to the river, and sites 8 & 9 have lost part of their space to river erosion. There are 3 wheelchair accessible sites, vault toilets, water and garbage bins. Thick understory gives a sense of privacy and ancient trees have strong sense of presence through out Silver Fir Campground. Heather Meadows at 5000 feet in elevation boasts a number of trails with beautiful views of mountains and of glistening lakes that nestle into the landscape. Among these are Ptarmigan Ridge Trail, Fire and Ice Trail, and Artist Ridge Trail. If you love subalpine flowers there is an abundance and variety here that will gladden your heart and the clear mountain air smells divine. The renovated Heather Meadows Visitors Center offers interesting exhibits and information about the ecosystem and cultural history of the area.
